Young Adulthood (20+ years)

  • College

    • When your child is deciding on colleges, be open to their choices

      • they are probably just as nervous as you are

      • give suggestions, but do not try to push too heavily on where you may want them to go

      • when deciding on a college, it’s important to have a conversation on things like distance to home, quality of education, and tuition costs

  • With your child going into college, it is a good idea to talk about saving money

    • useful things to practice:

      • tracking spending

      • creating a budget

      • making sure to set aside some money for savings

  • There are scholarships!

    • make sure to look out for scholarship opportunities with your child

    • there are many different types of scholarships that your child can get

      • they may be offered through the state, university, and/or high school

  • You Did It!

    • Trust that your child will be okay living away from home and that you’ve raised them well enough to take care of themselves.
